ALLEGED STOLEN RECORDS

CHRISTCHURCH BUSINESS MAN CHARGED. Press Association. AUCKLAND February 23. A. business man, Frederick John Craddock, who was arrested at Auckland in the middle of the week, a.nd was remanded to appear at Christchurch on a charge of having stolen a number of the records (such as the private ledger, cash book, and stock sheets) of the Craddock Hardware Company, Limited, of Christchurch, was brought before Mr E. C. Cutten this morning, when Chief, Detective McMahon asked that the prisoner be remanded to appear at Auckland on Wednesday. He said that the police bad received a wire stating that the directors of the company desired the case to be tried at Auckland, and that they were on their way up hero for that purpose. ( The magistrate remarked that the difficulty was that in case of committal here all the witnesses would have to be brought, at heavy expense from Christchurch. Mr McMahon: The information was laid by the directors, not by the police, and I think that when the proceedings come on your Worship will discover that the matter will be fixed up, so that there will bo no committal. Mr Singer, who appeared for accused, stated that he would have no objection, if there were a committal, to the case going to Christchurch for trial. The magistrate thereupon agreed to accused being remanded to appear at Auckland on Wednesday, and the prisoner was released on _ bail of two sureties provided by relative
