CALL ON CIVIL SERVANTS
Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 22. Recently two large defalcations by officers of tho public service, not in Auckland, were discovered. The total amount involved was £3OOO. This sum has, by the operation of the Civil Service Officers’ Guarantee Act, to be refunded by a pro, rata call on all Civil servants receiving more than £IOO a year, except those in the State Insurance Department and Official Assignee’s office, assistance f above onefortieth being given by a call of that amount on the Consolidated Fund. A public servant who gets £2OO a year will next Friday have to devote 8s to meet the deficiency; others contribute according to salary. This liability, however, "frees employees from the need of paying 10s to 15s yearly for a fidelity bond or guarantee fund.
