From Our Own Correspondent AIAbTERTON, February 22. A short, sharp Shook of eartnquak# was feit in Masxerton yesterday afternoon at 4.28 o’clock. Mr Oscar .Bickneii, of Greytown,.and formerly of Masterton, who was severely injured through a fail from a horse in a jumping event at the last Carterton show, being unconscious for some days, met with another accident on Thursday last. Ho was schooling a horse over jumps, when the animal fell, and Bickneii pad one of his arms broken. , The Opaki Rifle dub will “Be well represented at the Fapawai and Trentham riMe meetings. Members' of the To Wharau, Alfredton, Rongoinai, and other Wairarapa rifle olube will' also, compete at the latter meeting. Several heavy showers of rain have fallen in Masterton and the surrounding districts, and have greatly benefited the, pastures, which were becoming very parched. • ■ < The sum of £l2l was paid to. the waitresses, kitchenmen, and cooks engaged at this recent Solway show. The bullock used for the guessing competition at the .Masterton Show weighed 6471 b, and the three • sheep 2611 b. •

Messrs T. Harris and J. Care, of Martinborough, were successful competitors at the Kaiwaiwai Gun Club’s “shoot” on Thursday last. , Mr R. Roscoe, who has been on the staff of Messrs Pain and Kershaw, of Martinborough, for a considerable period, has taken a position in Auckland, for which place he will leave shortly. Mr Rosooe was instructor of the gymnasium classes at Martinborough. -- Messrs D. Crewe and J. OsburnoLily will contest the Pahiatua Mayoralty in April. It is not expected that anyone will oppose Mr J. M. Coradine, the present Mayor of Masterton. The Labour party will probably run several candidates for the positions of councillors at Masterton. Two or three of the present council de not intend to seek re-election.
