DAVID AND THE GOLIATHS

(To the Editor “N.Z. Times.”) Sir, —Your sub-leader in this morning’s “Times” I read with interest re tho behaviour of the city councillors on Thursday last. It must appear to any reader who read the actions of these so-called councillors that some of them go there with a great deal of war paint on; with the spirit to fight tho little David. These aro the Goliaths challenging him, and this sort of thing, has been going on for a long time. * But they may feel sorry yet for their actions, for this same David will most surely rise higher yet in this Dominion. Every one who knows tho man must admire him for the splendid services ho has rendered to this city and tho public generally. If these fighters could control themselves as well as the Mayor things would go on better. These Philistines may defy tho little man, but at the next election some of them may lose their political heads; and David will most certainly be' returned again as Mayor, for tho citizens are not troubling who tho man is who sits in the high office ns Mayor as long as he does that which is right and tries to advance tho city; and this is what Mr McLaren has done. And his good wife has been a -good helpmate and made a splendid Mavoress.—l am, etc., AN OLD CITIZEN. .Wellington,, February 23nd,
