Wellington’s representatives are; —Men; Swanstoh, Fisher, Peacock, Brown, White-Parsons, and Smythe, with Cleghom as emergency. Ladies: Misses Travers, Nunnely, Van Staveren, and Mrs Goldie. The personnel of the Canterbury team was not available when these notes were penned, but the southerners are sure to be represented by full strength, in which case Swans'ton’s meeting with Ollivier should bo a “star” item. INTER-CLUB MATCH. The postponed fixture between Rona Bay and W ellington in the men’s junior competition was played last Saturday, and resulted in a win for Rona Bay by 5 rubbers to 1. Lewis v. Grant, 6—4, 6—o; Kelly v. Grady, 6 —4, 4—6, 6—3; Isaacs v. Holmwood, 5 6, 6—5, 6 —l; Howdeu v. Clinkard, 6 5 —6, 6 —3; Lewis and Howden v. Grant and Grady, 5—6, 6—4, 5 —6; Kelly and Isaacs v. Holmwood and Clinkard, 6 —4, 6—3. All the singles ran to three sots, excepting that between Lewis and Grant, in which the former scored decisively considering some of , Grant’s performances this season. The first double was remarkable for two things —it was the only rubber Wellington captured, and furnished a sensational finish. After Rona Bay had lost the first set, 4—6, and reached 4 all in the, second, thejr captured seven successive games, making the score “set all” and 5 love. Rona Bay leads. Despite their subsequent efforts to win the necessary games, they failed to prevent Grant and Grady from putting up an almost similar “break” of games, the Wellingtonians annexing the rubber by taking the last six games lyBROUGHAM HILL CHAMPIONSHIPS. A start has been mad© with the club’s annual championships, and good progress made in the men’s events. Details ; Men’s Singles.—First round—-H. V Howe v. Hurley; 7—5, 6—-4; Quinne’ll v. The Men’s and Ladies’ Handicap Singles, hare now been completed, whilo the Men’s Championship Singles has already produced some interesting matches. There were sixteen entries for this event. Summarised the position is as follows: Men’s Championship Singles.-—Prin-cipal results—Organ v. Pavitt, 6—4, 4—6, 6—o; Kelly v. Howden, 6—3, 6—2; Lewis v. Isaacs, 6—3, 3—6, 6—4). These were all good contests., Pavitt played his best, but his condition gave out in the last' set. The next match was remarkable, because Howden had previously defeated Kelly in the final of the handicap by 6 points clear of his start, but Kelly turned the tables on him badly in the championship, Howden scoring only five games. Isaacs, in running Lewis to three sets, did very well, and kept his • opponent going throughout. ’ Kelly is in fine form just now, and is expected tb extend Lewis when they meet. Men’s Handicap Singles.—Cecil Howden (12) defeated Frank Kelly (10) in the final by 8 points all told, 60—52. Ladies’ Handicap Singles (Yankee rules). —Miss M. Kelly was the winner with eight victories and no losses. Miss Poynder was second. GENERAL NOTES. The Hutt Club’s tournament was advanced another stage last week, but not quite completed, owing to the absence of some players at the Territorial camp. J. M. Power (owe 5) won the men’s handicap singles, in the final of which he defeated P. W. Jackson (owe 10), 60—49. These two players afterwards annexed the handicap doubles from the “owe” 10 mark, defeating Ponanga and Oka Heketa (reo. 7), 60—51 (final). The winners figured in still another final when Jackson and Mrs Wagg (sot) defeated Power and Miss , OT Stevens (scr), 60—44, in the combined handicap doubles. Jackson and Power had previously won the championship doubles, and one of them is almost certain to win the singles (Hutt champion). P. W. Maddox, the ex-Aucklander who played third man in the strong Brougham Hill, cup team (after H. V. Howe and Watkins) a few years back,' takes his tennis quietly at Khandallah these days. He does not appear to have lost any of his cunning-and no doubt will prove somebody’s Waterloo in the combined Yankee tournament at present being run off by the Suburban Club. T. R. Herd, who was a Brougham Hill man at the same time as Maddox, is now at Grey mouth. The inter-olnb competitions having been completed, the following teams are the respective champions in the various grades: Men's Competition: Senior, Victoria , College; junior. Brougham Hill; third grade, Brougham Hill A; fourth grade. Brougham Hill. Ladies’ Competition: Senior, Wellington A; junior, Newtown; third grade. Brougham Hill.
