POLICE PROMOTIONS

CONSTABLES BECOME SERGEANTS.’ Several promotions in tte poEoe force were announced yesterday. Constable Donald McKenzie, of Lower Hutt, has been promoted to be sergeant, and will be transferred to Dunedin. ■ Constable Andrew McDonnell, of Aratepu, has been promoted to be sergeant, and will go to Newton (AackConstable L. E. O’Halloran, of Woodville, becomes a sergeant; and will be transferred to Wellington. Constable F. Lewin, of Amberley, Canterbury, has also been promoted to bo sergeant, and is coming to Wellington. Constable V. E. Taylor, of Palmerston North, will he transferred to Dunedin as a sergeant. Constable P. Cassidy, of Rakaia, has been made a sergeant, and will go to Christchurch. Constable J. A. Matthew, of To Kuiti, has also been promoted to sergeant’s rank, and will be transferred to Auckland. All these promotions are subject to the various constables passing the test of medical fitness _ imposed on sergeants. Tte commissioner (Mr John Cnllan) explained that these were stent tho last promotions prior to tte coming into force of tho new police regulations on March Ist, under which qualification for sergeant’s rank will he reacted by examination. These promotions were made under tte expiring system, as a reward for efficiency combined with length of service.
