SWIMMING
WELLINGTON CLUB'S CARNIVAL. Tho carnival of the Wellington Swimming Club, to take place at Te Axo Baths to-morrow afternoon, promises to be the best that has taken place in Wellington this year. Tho club has the strongest membership in Wellington, and the entries total over 200. Besides the 230yds provincial championship (which has attracted the largest entry to date), there is the public schools relay championship in which some excellent swimming should be seen. A 440yds handicap has attracted so many entries that three heats will be necessary. It is probable that C. Welson (of Auckland), who swam second in all the distance events at the New Zealand championships, will be a competitor. He will be the best distance performer who has appeared in Wellington for some years. The novelty events ptomise to bo better than usual. Mr G. p. Hanna has a troupe of clever boys in training, and the necessary arrangements are well under way. There will also bo water polo and high and exhibition diving, with tableau effects. The management promise that there will be no waiting between events, and that spectators will have a splendid afternoon's sport. THORNDON CLUB. Nelson (Msec), 3; T. J. King (35sec), 3. Time, 2miu 27sec. Final: Healy X, Nelson 2, Wilkinson. Time, 2min 27scc.
