From Our Own Correspondent. February 19. Several bush fires are now raging on the Tararuas. ■ln some instances the “burns” are satisfactory. The yearly returns of the Shannon Druids’ Lodge, show- the membership to bo 160, over- 60 t new members having been initiated,-;, during tho year. The total receipts for the year amounted to £556 Is sd, and tho expenditure £364 6s 8d- ■ ‘ : , , The Rev. Harry Cotton, who has been appointed to be the first fully ordained Methodist minister to take up the work of the southern end of the Levin-Otaki circuit (residing at Otaki), is a young man, now stationed at Ketone.- He will arrive here in April; The Rev., T. F. Jones, who has been for five years superintendent minister of tho Levin-Otaki Methodist circuit, leaves in April next to take charge of the Birkenhead circuit. • The death occurred on Tuesday of Mr William Deiis Glacken, youngest son of Mr and Mrs Denis Glacken, of Hautere Cross, at tho early age of twenty-six years. Deceased,, when quite young, showed a fondness for engineering, and 'was apprenticed as a marine engineer. . Some years ago he went to Belfast, Ireland, where he received a good position, and did well in hia profession, showing himself possessed of marked abilities. Owing to ill-health, he returned to hia homo a!t Hautere some time back, and since then gradually lost strength. Deceased was a straightforward, clever, and popular young man, and much regret is felt at' his early demise, and his parents and relatives have received many expressions of sympathy with them in their bereavement. The funeral will take place on Friday.
