FREEZING WORKS MEN

DECISIONS AT DOMINION CONFERENCE. The second annual conference of the New Zealand Freezing Works and Allied Trades’ Association was held in Wellington on Tuesday and yesterday. Delegates were present from unions throughout the Dominion with the exception of iho Wellington industrial district. , A statement of finance showed that the receipts during the year totalled £lOl 9s 9d and the expenditure £B7 Is, included in which was £73 organising expenses. There was a balance of £l4 8s 9d in hand. It was mentioned in the report of the secretary that thewhole of the unions in the Souths Island were now affiliated, and that the only district not covered by the association was Wellington. It was practically assured that in any future disputes conditions would bo obtained to cover the whole of the South Island. The conference decided to convene a meeting of freezing works employees, to be held at Petorie to-night, for the purpose of emphasising the advisability of the men there employed joining the federation. It was agreed to instruct the executive council to again approach the New Zealand Slaughtermens’ Federation with a view of amalgamation of the two organisations. Among the other decisions of the conference was one “that no union or unions in the New Zealand Freezing Works and Allied Trades’ Association of Workers, join or become affiliated to the New Zealand Federation of Labour, United Labour Party, or any other Dominion Labour federation, party, _or league that may hereafter come into existence, unless a majority of the members of the whole of the above-mentioned Freezing Works and Allied Trades’ Association of Workers decide by ballot, that the association as a whole join or .become affiliated to such Dominion Labour federation, party or league.”
