THE SLAUGHTERMEN
Improvement, as far as the tally is concerned, is still reported at the Gear works, Petone. Yesterday over 2000 sheep and lambs were slaughtered. There are between sixty and seventy butchers operating on the “board.” On Tuesday a start was made with the killing of cattle. One gang was put on and tho carcases were treated in a satisfactory manner. The~ number of bodies treated yesterday and on Tuesday was twenty each day. This number fulfils all requirements, and further butchers on the beef “board” are not required at present. Strict inquiries show that the work done in both slaughtering sheds is equal to any accomplished in past seasons, though the rat© of killing is of course slower. FACTORIES WORKING QUIETLY.
