CONGREGATIONAL UNION

CONFERENCE IN TIMARU. Press Association. TIAIARU, February 18. The Congregational Union Conference to-day received a deputation from the Timaru Presbytery, and Ministers' Association, and exchanged fraternal greetings, with expressions of mutual hopes of future union. The business to-day was the reception of the financial reports. These showed that the expenses exceeded the receipts by £55, but this had been made up by donations. Hon. G. Fowlds was thanked for his offer of £3O towards the cost of the meeting of delegates at Wellington at an early date to consider the question of organisation. The Pastors’ Provident Fund is now £3897 —an increase of £2lO. Contributions have rather been falling off. ■ A request for the starting of a branch at Ashburton was declined with regret for financial reasons. In the afternoon two papers. were read on Bible classes.
