MUNICIPAL OFFICERS

WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION. Some time ago tto members of the City Council staff decided to follow the example of the officers of local government bodies in Great Britain and form an officers' association. To this end a provisional committee was appointed for the purpose of drafting rules, and making the necessary preliminary arrangements in connection with the scheme. The report of the provisional committee was presented at the first annual meeting of the association, which was _ held on Monday evening in the Council Chamber, Town Hall. The Mayor, who presided, complimented the provisional committee upon the excellent results it had achieved, and congratulated the staff upon its initiative in establishing an organised association on the lines of those flourishing in the old country. It would be found, he said, that not only would the members of the association derive benefit from the new organisation, but the community as a whole would indirectly profit thereby. It could not be denied that the newlyformed association would prove a strong co-operative force to the City Council in many ways, and make for increased efficiency all round. Mr McLaren touched upon his own .personal experience in connection with the formation of similar associations, and speaking from that experience prophesied a prosperous future for the association. . Mr J. W.
