The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner, dated London, F’eß ruary 16th. Supplies are Increasing, but Canterbury are gettng very scarce, Canterliury 4id per lb nominal; North Island, 4Jd. ‘ Lamb.—The market Is firm. There is a good demand for all lamb. Plate lamb this season shows great improvement in quality. Canterbury, 7d per lb; other than Canterbury, 6id; Plato 5Jd. Beef.—The market is dull. A large oupply. New Zealand hinds, 3|d per lb; fores, Sjd. Butter.—The market i* very unsettled. There is a good local demand for choicest, but there is a limited demand for poorer grades; unsalted, being scarce and wanted for Continent, commands 29 premium. New Zealand, 114 s to 126 b per cwt (for *best quality); Australian, Siberian, Argentine, 110 s; Danish, 1295. Cheese.—Tho market is quiet but steady. The average price for the week for finest New Zealand' cheese, per cwt, is 60s 6d. Hemp—The market is very quiet. Manufacturers are holding off the market. No change in prices. 'me total quantity of wheat and flour shipped from all exporting countries during the week ended Febrnary 15th was equivalent to 1,400.000 quarters of wheat, compared with 1,650,000 quarters in the previous week aud 1,050,000 quarters a year ago. The Incorporated Society of Meat Importers' Smithfield market quotations for the undermentioned classes of frozen meat are bused on actual salea Of not less than one hundred carcases of mutton or lamb or twenty-live quarters of beef of fair average quality. The quotations are not for selected lines, but for parcels fairly representative of the bulk of the shipment® now on the market. The prices which follow are on the average a farthing per lb more than the values ex ship, this difference representing an average cost in expense, handling, conveyance aud selling the meat.
