RIFLE SHOOTING

PETONE CLUB v. HIGHLAND RIFLE CLUB. The above clubs mot for the first time on Saturday when a very keen contest took place, in a match at 300, 500, and 600 yards, seven shots at each range, Petoue eventually winning by the very narrow margin of eight points. At 300 yards Petone established a lead' of 18 points. At 500 yards the Highlanders settled down to the task of overhauling this, but could only gain seven. At 600 yards tho last man down of tho Highlanders had to make a possible bo draw, but the task was too much, and 27 was the result, leaving the Petone winners by eight points. The weather conditions were none too easy, a/ left wind varying in strength besting the skill of the best. The highest scores were registered by Riflemen Eves, of the Highlanders, and Mcllvride, of Petone, each with 97. De-puty-president Shannon, of the Highlanders, was next with 95, including a possible at 500 yards. Riflemen Henderson, of the Highland Club, and AV. Ballinger, of Petone, each scored 34 at 500 yards. The following are the details of the shooting: PETONE CLUB.

Next Saturday the Petone Rifle Club will hold a practice at AVaiwetu, and the Highlanders will practise at PolhiU Gully, as the Treutham range will be closed. UPPER HUTT CLUB. Ou Saturday the Upper Hutt Club continued its competition t for trophies presented by Mr W. Greig, scores also counting for the AViiford aggregate and \ T ioe-president J. Barton’s medal.
