A sum of nearly thirty thousand pounds is required to meet the expedition’s outstanding liabilities and to relieve the Scott estate. Scott largely pledged his own and his wife’s fortune to carry out the expedition.l Lord Curzon, writing to the press, says that he has the highest authority for stating that the Government will make provision for the dependants of the lost heroes from the national funds. Press Association. DANNEVIRKE, February 15. The Dannevirke Borough Council has placed on record its appreciation of the gallantry of the South Pole heroes, and has pledged itself to support a fund to relieve the burden of those dependent on those lost.
