Ftom Our Own Correspondent. * February IS. The entries for the Mastorton Show total 1960, as compared with 2171 year.. The falling off is principally in the Horticultural (ISO), produce (239) and competition (158) sections. # Previously published figures in connection with .the entries received wore not complete, but entries have now finally closed. In .Lincolns fifty-five sheep will. b© shown, the principal exhibitors ibeiug Ay. Perry (Masterton), Hand JKayner terton), K, Cooper (Gladstone) and the trustees of the late D. McMaster (Lower Valley). Tno Southdowns will be a very strong class iu quality, while the entries total eighty-four. The flocks of Messrs- Ellis Pros. (Bulls), S. 1C Lancaster (Palmerston North), Nelson Bros. (Hawke's Bay), VV. H. Buick (Masterton), and J. Strang (Glenside) null be among those represented iu this section. The Bomueys should make an .excellent, show, Ihougn there is a decrease in entries from 131 last year to 94 this year. Competition will be confined to Walrarapa hocks. Competition in Border JLeicesters t will be confined to Messrs o. -A. Welsh (FortyMile Bush,) J. Bowthwaite (Fordell) and T. \V. .Wardell (To Wfaiti). 'There , are 32 entries in this section. Though there are eighteen entries in English Leicesters competition will be conmied to Mr B. Lancaster* the only exhibitor; Shropshlres will be represented by the flocks of Messrs B. Vavasour (Ugbrooke, Maryborough), W. liayner (Masterton), W. McKenzie (Masterton), and Donald's Estate (Feathex*ston). The fat and freezing sheep will be the best , ever seen at Mastrton. The entries in ‘'freezers” total 269, the chief exhibitors being Messrs VV* E. C. Tyloe (Makuri), B. Buick (Masterton), H. H. Beetham (Masterton), W. H. Beetham (Masterton), McKenzie Bros. (Masterton), J. Strung (Glenside), T. T. Hiilas (Mauricevilie), H. J. Booth (Feildmg), P. H. Nathan (Gladstone), C. >l. Perry (Pern rose), B-. Swainson (Feildiug), VN. McKenzie (Masterton), JtL McKenzie (Mas* terton), J. C. MoKillop (To Ore Ore), AV. Perry (Penrose), J. E. Perry [Uansr dowjie). Gray Bros. (Masterton), AV . i). Taylor (Pahiatua), ,I>. and S. Stilbom (Tinni), G. McKay (AVangaehu), and Sir W. C. Buchanan (Tupurupurul. The entries in “fats" number 117, the prtnciipal exhibitors being as follow Messrs It. Swain son, J. C- McKillop, AV, Howard Booth, AV. H. AVatson, Gray Bros.. J. Strang, H. K. McKenzie. C. F. A'aHance (Kahumiugi), H. Bmck and P. H. Aathan. The purebred Shorthorn classes' have produced onlv twenty-five entries. _ Ayath the exception of Mr W. T. Williams (Hawke’s Bay) the competitors are all VVairarapa breeders, viz.: Dir AA . ' ■ Buchanan, Messrs v.. Mace, AV. Howard Boota and C. V. . Vallance. Thirty-six entries have been received in grade Shorthorns. For the first time for some years Polled Angus will be seen at a Masterton Show, Mr F. Armstrong (Akitio) and the Gwavas Station (Hawke's Bay) exhibiting. There are, however, only six entries. * The Holstein-Frcsian classes are poorly filled, there being only eleven entries. The competitors will be Messrs W. I. Lovelock (Palmerston North), J. Hart (Dannevirke). E. Buckeridge (Kokatau) and G. W. Hart (Balefield,.. Hereford* show a slight falling off in numbers as compared with last shew, there being 37 beasts entered in the various classes. Messrs 1-■ Short (Parorangi) and G- F. Moore (Kai Iwi) cvill be the principal exhibitors. Thirty-seven entries have been received in Jerseys, and the (battle for premier honours will 'be chiefly between Messrs E. Eagle, junior (Belvedere) and S. It. Lancaster, . Ayrshires are small in numbers, and competition will be confined to local breeders. The fat cattle (57) should moke a splendid display, as Messrs t.. Short, W. H. Beetham, G. F. Moore and Su- U. V. Buchanan will exhibit stock. Thci-e are nine entries in the stallion class, 13 in thoroughbreds. - 90 in ponies. IS in hack-, 21 iu 'harness horses, and 93 in saddle classes. Twenty-two entries have been received in the vegetable classes, 2-1 iu fruit and 39 in flowers.
