PROPOSED MOTOR-CAR TAX

r Press Association, MARTON, February 15. A conference promoted by the Bangilikei County Council was held here to-day of representatives of adjacent local bodies and automobile associations to consider the adopting of uniform bylaws for motor tralfio. There was considerable discussion regarding a Government tax for the upkeep of roads. It was resolved unanimously that the Government should impose a tax fin cars, the proceeds to be handed to am! expended by the local bodies for roads affected by motor traffic, a gpecial board being set up to allocate the distribution of the proceeds and that a higher tax be imposed on cars plying for hire; also, that a license to ply for lure granted in one district hold good in all other districts, such fee to be uniform throughout the Dominion. Another resolution was to tile effect that regulations under clause ii of the Motor Regulations Act, 1008, be isn ed, providing that all persons plying for hire be examined and tested medically, and otherwise to ensure that they are competent to drive. Copies of the resolutions are being sent to the Government.
