STRIKERS AND FREE LABOUR
To the Editor “N.Z. Times.” Sir, —In your issue of February 13th you state that in Canterbury there is some difference between the strikers and the Aissistants’ Union, the latter advising its members that they are at liberty to slaughter as free labourers. It is alleged the assistants resented the failure of the Slaughtermen’s Union to stand by them some years ago and nursed their grievance. This statement is not correct. The Canterbury Freezing Works, Bacon, Manure, and Soap Employees’ Union, at a special meeting at which over 100 members were present, instructed its members net to take the place of any slaughtermen, but They were to use their own discretion as to whether they should return to their usual work if called on by the employers.—l am, etc., F. ELLIS, Secretary Canterbury Freezing Works,, Bacon and Manure Employees' Industrial Union 6f Workers. , Trades’ Hall, Christchurch, February 13tb.
