AMATEUR ATHLETICS
TO-DAY’S CHAMPIONSHIPS. THe New Zealand amateur athletic track and field cliampiouship meeting on the Basin Reserve this alternoon should be a most successful gathering. The best athletic talent in the Dominion will bo computing, and patrons are assured of some excellent contests. Five centres will bo represented in the struggle for tho championship shield —bouthianu, Wellington, Gamer bury, Auckland and Otago. The Southland centre is the present holder, and it has sent up a strong team of ten men to defend the coveted honour. Auoklnnds representatives should score well in several of the events, and Otago and Canterbury may help to divide the points. The contest should be a most interesting one. Wellington will have a “walk over” in the walks, and in all the other events, including the sffeld, should make close nnishes. The iirst event is timed to start at 2.15 p.m.
