THE SLAUGHTERMEN
The slaughtering tally at the Gear works, Petone, has practically increased, since Tuesday, at the rate of 200 carcases per day; yesterday’s kill having exceeded the 1400 mark. Slaughtermen to the number of sixty operated on the “board,” and a further batch of seven start to-day. On Monday more men will bo engaged, and it is expected a material difference will be made in the tally. “Highly satisfactory” is the reply given by the management in regard to the quality of work turned out. "It could not 'be better.” . Labourers and hands generally m the various departments are being increased each day. . . At Ngahauranga slaughtering is beinc proceeded with, and between 1100 and 1200 carcases were put through vc'terday. ' A meeting of the executive of the New Zealand Slanghterraen’s Federation will he held at tho Trades Hall tonight, at 8 o’clock. TIMARU WORKS GOING QUIETLY. Press Association. TIMARU, February 14.
