AFTERNOON TEA

Yesterday afternoon the members of the Pioneer Club held a reception in honour of Mrs Massey, who is now a wice-warden of the club. The rooms looked particularly gay, great bowls of varigated sweet peas being set about on tho tables, while on the shelves and mantelpiece tall vases of large white daisies, tiger lilies and montbretias showed up against the brown walla. Punctually at 4 o'clock Airs Alassey arrived, accompanied by her daughter and her two visitors, and was received bv Miss Richmond (president of the olup). She was then presented to all the members Individually. and had a few minutes' conversation with each. Tea was served in the strangers’ room, where more sweet peas were sot about, and small pots of asparagus fern, and later Aliss HardingeAlaltby gave a couple of recitations, and Mrs Vickery played a pianoforte solo. Mrs Massey wore a grey eolienne costume with self-coloured embroidery, and a grey toque with pink roses; Miss Alassey was in white muslin and a wide white hat; Miss Richmond wore black crepe do cheue and .black bat with ospreys; Mrs Hammond was in black silk and embroidery, with roses in a black hat; Darling wore grey poplin, faced with white and a black and white hat; Mrs Grey, tussore coat and skirt with touches of ,hluo; Mrs Fitchett. mauve ninon with Faisley bordering over loulard. and a black hat. Among the visitors present were Miss Blake (England), who wore a bine voile dress and brown hat smartly turned up at one side; Mrs Alec Myers, in tabac fawn silk, with panel embroidered in brown and gold and small close-fitting hat to match; Mrs Waters, in black and white checked costume and white hat; and Mrs Ewen (England) in a dress of white taffetas, the skirt draped with ninon edged with fine lace, and a smart coatee of shot reseda tafietas patterned with a tiny flower and edged with ruchings, white hat trimmed with ribbon and deep red roses; Airs Hardy, of Christchurch, wore floral muslin and a rose-wreathed hat, and Mrs Hollis a green voile costume and black hat with green feathers.
