His Excellency the Governor re turns to Wellington to-day from Dannevirko. Lord and Lady Liverpool will giv* a garden party in the Government House grounds to-morrow afternoon, commencing at 4 p.m. Hon, Lieutenant Colonel J. Hugh Boscawen, Auckland, is gazetted extra aide-de-camp to the Governor. The appointment of Mr J. J. Craig as Chilean Consul at Auckland is gazetted. Dr. S. T. Chnmptaloup has been appointed port health officer at Dunedin. Mr Robert McDuff Birred has resigned his position as a member of the Hawke’s Bay Land Board. Mr Gcorso White has been appointed a member cf the Waipawa Licensing Committee. Miss Muriel Bennett, of Wellington, has been engaged to sing at the Highland Society’s concert at Napier' on Wednesday next. Dr. A. McArthur, S.M., left for Wanganui yesterday in connection with business on the Railway Appeal Board. Mr Mentiplay, late .of Wellington, who for a time was acting as relieving manager of the Westport branch of the Bank of Now Zealand, has been appointed manager in place of the late Mr Moss. Dr. Ewart, late surgeon superintendent of Wellington Hospital, has informed the hospital committee that during Dr. Hardwick Smith’s absence in England he will be pleased to assist or advise Dr. Woodhouso in the administration of the hospital. The Hospital Committee is recommending the Wellington Board to make the following appointments: Senior Nurse M. Gorman, to be promoted to charge nurse; Dr. D. G. Matheson junior house surgeon; Miss L. Fleming assistant clerk at the hospital; Mr O. MoKirdy, junior, practical engineer. It was stated at a meeting of the Canterbury Typographical Union on Saturady that one of tho life-members of the union, Mr G. S. Porter, would reach his hundredth birthday on March 18th, thereby earning the distinction of being tho oldest known living compositor. Mr F. L. Biss, who has filled the position of manager of the Dunedin branch of the Union Company for some years past, has been appointed to tho position of branch manager at Hobart, and will depart on February 23rd to take up his new duties, relieving Mr E. A. Eva, who will come to Dunedin and assume tho duties of acting-manager of the branch there. The following names of officiating ministers under the Marriage Act are gazetted; Church of England—Revs. E.' D. Rice and T. Fisher. Presbyterian Church —Revs. S. Buchanan and J. L. Patullo and Mr R. Ashton. Lutheran Church—Rev. Ha mu era T« Punga. Seventh Day Adventists— Messrs C. K. Meyers, W. H. Pascoo, and W. J. Westerman. Dr. H. Youngraan, president of the General Conference of the Methodist Church of Australasia, who Came over to attend the first united conference of the Methodist Church in New Zealand, took his leave of the conference last night, and will proceed south today. The conference president, tbe Rev. S. Lawry, thanked Dr. Youngman very heartily for the great help ho had been during the deliberations, and assured him that his visit would be very long remembered by Methodists in the Dominion. The Hon. W. P. Massey returned from Marion last evening. The Hon. A. L. Herdman paid a visit to Palmerston North yesterday on Crown legal business, and returned to Wellington in the evening. The Hon. F. M. B. Fisher accompanied the Governor yesterday on his Excellency’s visit to the Dannevirke A. and P. Show. The Son. W. Fraser is in the south, and the Hon. R. H. Rhodes is in the vicinity of Mount Cook. The Hon. H. D. Bell and Dr. Pomare are at Wellington. Mr G. W. Forbes, M.P., has received word from the Hon. W. Fraser, Minister of Public Works, in reply to a request, asking when he intended to fulfil his promise, given in Parliament, to go over the route of tho South Island Main Trunk line during the recess. The Minister has replied that he cannot fix the exact date, as he has to go over Southland this month, and, possibly, the West Coast, and then to Gisborne in March, and on to Whangarei and Bay of Islands. The visit to Cheviot will not take place until those journeys are concluded. He has promised, when at Cheviot, to meet a deputation from the Stonyhurst settlers about a grant in aid of their proposed bridge over the Humnui, and also to view the site. Mr Hugh Hamilton, who for the past eight years has been general manager in New Zealand tor the Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, Limited, tendered to the Wellington staff a farewell . supper at Godber’a rooms on Tuesday evening. Mr Hamilton has been promoted to an executive position in the head office of the company at Melbourne, and leaves for Australia to-day by the Ulimaroa. Advantage was taken of Hie opportunity to present Mr and Mrs Hamilton with a very handsome solid silver tea and coffee service, the presentation being mad© by Mr 3. L. McC'intock. who assumes contro l for New Zealand in succession to Mr Hamilton. During the course of the evening musical and other items were given by various members of the staff, the proceedings closing with exoressions of bon vev--e-e and goodwill towards Mr and Mn Hamilton in their new sphere. ’
