COFFINS OF HIS CHILDREN

FOUND. LONDON, February 12. _ The coffins of King Canute’s twin children, drowned in AVhittlesea Mere, have been found in the monastic ceme-t lory at Petersborough. Canute the Great. King of England, Denmark, and Norway, was born about 994, and died on November I2th, 1035. at Shaftesbury. Ho was younger son of Bweyn, King of Denmark, with whom ho invaded England in 1013. He succeeded hia father (by election of the Danish peers) as King in England in February. 1014. His early career was marked by great barbarity, but later he became one of the wisest, as well as mightiest, riders of his age. He.married Emma (Aelfgifu), widow of King Aethelred.
