MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12. (Before Air W. G. Riddell, S.M.) AN IMPUDENT THEFT. • Kenneth Green, a young man, pleaded guilty to a charge that on February sth, he stole a handbag and cpntents, valued at £2 8s 7d, the property of Helen Sunderland. Sub-Inspector Sheehan prosecuted, and Air P. W. Jackson appeared for the defence. Complainant stated that on the evening of the sth inst. she was a passenger on a Brooklyn tramcar. Accused, when quitting the car, snatched at the bag, the strap of which broke. Dugald Bramley, conductor of the car, said ho saw the accused fall off the car. Tho man had a handbag in his possession, but immediately picked himself up and ran away. Subsequently, witness, with others, caught Green, and handed him over to Constable Melville. Accused entered a plea of guilty and was committed' to tho Supreme Court for sentence. •CHARGE DISAUSSED. A charge against George Richard Farley of committing an indecent assault was dismissed. DRUNKENNESS. Thomas Yates was ordered to pay £1 15s costa of curative treatment for drunkenness. (Before Dr A. McArthur, S.M.) SUBCONTRACTING WORK. Judgment was given by Dr McArthur, S.M., in the case in which Burridge and Ford, contractors, of Wellington, sued H. Ranson, builder, of Wellington, for £143 4s Hd, alleged to be due by_ Ranson in respect of certain excavation work done by the claimants, as subcontractors, in connection with additions to Staples,’ Brewery. His Worship allowed plaintiffs £133 10s 9d. Air C. W. Tringham appeared for the plaintiffs, and Air T. Young for the defendants.
