RETURN OF THE TERRA NOVA
THE STIRRING STORY OF THE EXPEDITION. PERILS OF THE BARRIER. Special to tho “ Times.” CHRISTCHURCH, February 12. Tlie Terra Nova- arrived at Lyttelton this morning, and berthed at 11 o’clock. No ono was permitted to board the vessel, unless by the express invitation ol tbo commander, and only ono or vivo members of the ship’s company stepped ashore. >T , , Tbo men on the Terra Nova bad placed the awful tragedy behind them in the wastes of the Antarctic silence, and for them was tbo joy of the return to friends and relations. There was no dullness of despair; no mourning. The returning explorers knew the greatness of the tragedy and the gloiy that had been tbo monument to the party their leader had led personally. Down in the South the bodies of their companions were buried, and the men on the Terra Nova returned to civilisation not as mourners, but as men who had done a great work and knew that their companions had met a great death, perishing heroically in the glory of success.
