Miss M. Cargill is visiting friends in Dunedin, Mr and Mrs R. Fell, of Nelson, are holidaymaking at Mount Cook. ■ Mr and Mrs McGrath returned from a visit to Sydney yesterday. Mrs Stocker is visiting Mrs G. K. Stocker in Picton. Mrs A. Izard, Wanganui, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Alexander, of Timaru, are visiting Wellington. Miss Ledger, of Nelson, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr and Mrs E. Coleridge have returned from a visit to Nelson. Miss Booth, of Nelson, is on a visit to Mrs George Watts at Lansdowne. Miss Pierard was a passenger by the Maunganui yesterday on her return from Australia. Dr. and Mrs Clay left for Rotorua by the Main Trunk express yesterday. Miss Elsie Simpson has left England, and ’is expectpd back in New Zealand in March. Mr and Mrs Kernot returned to Wellington from a trip Home by the Maunganui yesterday. Mrs H. B. Mason returned/ from a trip to Australia by the Maunganui yesterday. Mrs Harper, Mrs Hacoh, and Miss Campbell, of this city, are visiting Nelson. Mr and Mrs J. Teschmaker-Shute, of Blenheim, have been on a visit to Wellington. Mrs H. H. Miller, Ngaturi, who has been on a visit to Wellington, has returned to Pahiatua. Mrs A. J. Williams and her children, who have been staying at the Windsor, returned to Napier yesterday. Mrs S. M. Gyles and daughter have returned from a visit to the West Coast, Nelson, and overland via Buller and Otira Gorge to Christchurch. Mrs McGibbon, of Dannevirke, arrived in Wellington on Tuesday last on her way south. She leaves tonight for Lyttelton, en route to Invercargill. i Among the visitors staying at the Hotel Windsor are: Mr and Mrs Dodds (Gisborne), Miss Edith Penhey (Masterton), Mr, Mrs, and Miss Cobb (Feilding), Dr. Ada Patterson (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs Seed (Christchurch), and Mr and Mrs Treason (Auckland). The “Weekly Press” announces the following engagements; Miss Freda Waterhouse, daughter of Mr Waterhouse, of Mangawhare, Hawke’s Bay, to Dr. H. Wilson, of Hastings; Miss W. Parsons, of Wanganui, to Mr J. Glenn, of Hawera; Miss M. E. Reiner, only daughter of Mr and Mrs A. E. Reiner, of Christchurch, to Mr Herbert Rowley, of Birmingham, England; Miss Myrtle Thompson, daughter of Mr T- Thompson, county engineer, Westport, to Mr C. E. Butcher, of H.M. Customs, Westport, son of Mr D. Butcher, Otokia, Otago; and Miss Waida Martin, second daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Martin, Armagh street, Christchurch, to Mr B. J. Ager, eldest son of the Rev. A. Ager, Victoria. The Hon. A. L. Herdman and Mrs Herdman gave an afternoon tea yesterday at the Kelburno Kiosk. One side of the roomy verandah was reserved for the guests, and here small tables were set, prettily arranged with scarlet and white sweet peas. Inside the building a string band played selections. Sirs Herdman received the guests at the main entrance, and was seconded by Mr Herdman in entertaining them. The hostess wore a pretty soft blue ©olienne with a white spot, the neck finished with cream net worked with blue embroidery, and a white hat with black velvet and white oatiich tips. Mrs Massey wore black, with long black satin coat and plumed hat. Mrs K.' M. Bainbridge, A.L.C.M., A.V.C.M., gave an “at home” to her pupils at her residence, Crescent road, Roseneath, last Saturday. The entertainment took the form of a concert, followed by games and dancing, and was very much enjoyed by all present. Pianoforte solos were given by Misses A. Duncan, C. Bainbridge, D. Stevens, S. Morrison, M. Wilkinson, M. Gully, and A. Smith in the upper division, and Misses L. Sutherland, E. Hargreaves, M. and E. Morgan, F. Thornton, and B. McDougall in the lower division. Songs
were rendered by Misses F. Meblure, E. Staff, M. Grant, L. Hunter, and C. Bainbridge, and Miss Doris Stevens recited. During the evening several prizes were presented: A special prize to Miss Doris Stevens tor having passed the junior division of the Associated Board recently. Singing, F. McClure and Eva Staff. Pianoforte playing, upper division, Sybil Morrison, May Wilkinson, Archie Smith: lower division, Lizzie 'Sunderland, Rhoda Ward, Eileen Hargreaves, Muriel and Eileen Morgan. The rooms were prettily decorated with flowers, gifts from several of the pupils, and some of the smaller children were in fancy costumes, - representing flowers. ' Among the grownups present were Mrs Francis Stevens and Mrs Gully, of Oriental Bay.
