NOTES ON THE RACING Special to tho “Times.” Ngatiruanui was always a screaming hot order for tho First Handicap Hurdles, and he just beat Bercola over the last 50yds. Had Flynn not made so much use of Bercola he would have won. After tho race tho stewards had Flynn up for chopping across the held when going out of the straight, but after a full inquiry ho action was taken. Sanguinary, who was a very warm favourite for tho Stewards’ Handicap, was early in trouble and, getting galloped on, this completely settled her chance. Lucerne was last to leave the mark on tho outside, blit showed terrific paco over the first two furlongs, and had tho race won from there out. Sanguinary and Overtime were the last pair to finish. There was a fair crowd of Aucklanders down for the mooting, and as they supported eaon of their representatives solidly the day was a disastrous one for them. Fassaderfa could not paco it with Grattan and Zetes in the early part of the Timaru Hack, which the latter just won. Grattan, who was last to leave tho barrier, was made far too much use of. The Aucklander Worcester was finishing the fastest at tho end, though running him In this event Just robbed him of a victory in the Okato Hack Handicap. Undecided never had the semblance of a winning chance in the Cup and finished fifth. Dearest just accounted for Byron by the narrowest of margins for third place. Con-the-Shaugh-raun and Lady Menschikoff fought out a great finish over the last furlong, the former just getting the verdict in the last two strides. ■ After travelling half the journey Katua never left tho First Welter in doubt, this being one of the easiest wins of the day. This hors© was badly interfered with tho second day at Hawera. , . Conney paid a nice price in tho Okato Hack Handicap, and really had tho race won five furlongs from home. Worcester, Who was badly placed from the start and right through the race, did well to run second, though I think. Minora should have occupied that place. Goldsize was heavily supported for the Flying Handicap, but never got near the front. After Patronale had led for five furlongs Peroneal, on whom Oliver showed fin© horsemanship. Just beat him by a nose. Yankee Doodle, who was on the rails, easily accounted for the remainder of the Scurry contingent. Silver Rose should finish nearer to-morrow. She almost came down when Well up, C. Monk Was Up before the stewards for interfering with Byron in the Gup, and after hearing a 16t of evidence his. was cancelled for the remainder of the license was cancelled for the remainder of the meeting. Alf. Oliver, the rider of Muleteer, was before the steward for not being vigorous enough on that horse at the start of the First Welter, but he got off with a caution. There were fifteen scratched for the Scurry out of twenty-six coloured On the card, and some of them were quit© out of pl9.ee on a racecourse. ACCEPTANCES TOR SECOND DAY.
