RICCARTON NOTES
Special to the “Times.” February 11. (i. J. Pine has disposed ol Genius to a North Canterbury sportsman, and. the Australian bred gelding hoe gone into Roder's stable. The big gelding has been quite a disappointment, and has not raced nearly so well as his track work suggested ho would, . • duo Soult colt Antagonist is going along well in his work, and it is hoped to get this very fast horse to the port at tho next meeting held at Riocaiton. It is a pity that thin horse is such a highly strung customer. il is doubtful liuih would nave a much better chance of mending properly if he w f ere not continually prancing about. The two-year-old Judith, by Martian— Hebrew Maid, in E. Cutis's stable, is developing into a nice type of filly, and has built UP wonderfully during the past few mouths. . , E. P. Oiaridge has again put Shillelagh into work, and .the steeplechase gelding is ill nice condition, to commence his preparation. That he is foaling very fit was evidenced on the track this morning, when, with his trainer in the saddle, ho gave a creditable exhibition of buck .jumping, although he failed to uuseat his experienced mentor. B. Roberts is at present busily engaged handling a. pair of Mr H. A. KuighYs two-year-olds. The brown filly by V asco from Argon is ft solidly built youngster and is a half-sister to Troon. A light bay gelding by Vasco from Flame is quite unlike either of his relations, Mnmura and Tikitere, but ho is ft really promising sort, and should be able to gallop. Troon, in the. same stable, appears to be in good hard condition, and as expected to xun well in her Dunedin engagements, Messrs W. G. and G. L. Stead will have Culprit to represent them at the Wanganui meeting, while Oxenhope and Somnifonn will be sent south to fulfil their engagements at the Dunedin Jockey Club’s fixtures. Mar tine, by Martian—Gipsy Maid, was mated with Bonny Glen in the spring, and she has now been retired from racing. A three-year-old gelding by Charlemagne U. —Lady London, is the latest addition to D. Moraghan'a team at Ricoarton. Mr J. Gragg has had the two-year-old Whizz, by Calibre —Tapuwai, placed under the care of A, McAulay, at Kiccarton, to be prepared for future engagements, MoAulny has already proved successful with Foam Flake, another of Mr Grigg’s team.
