DEATH OF SOLOMON NEWTON
Press Association. ROTORUA, Februaij 11. At the inquest touching the death of Solomon Newton, the Maori who was drowned in Lake Rotorua on Sunday, the evidence showed that a party or fifteen, including three natives, spent the day on the lake. They had with them five dozen of beer and six bottles of whisky. By the time Hamurana, the second port of calk was reached, all the liquor had been consumed, the party being more or less intoxicated. The organiser of the party admitted that he was not sober enough to remember the details of the accident, but others stated that Solomon was walking along a side of the launch when ho slipped. Although a good swimmer he made no effort -in the water and sank when the launch was close to him. A verdict of accidental drowning wat returned.
