WELLINGTON AND CANTEEBUET. THE INTEEPEOVINCIAL FIXTUEB. Some difficulty has arisen between the Wellington Cricket Association and th» Canterbury Cricket Association regarding their interprovinoial fixture this season, and the matter was again discussed at the meeting of the management committee of the Cricket Association last evening. The chairman (Mr M. Luckle) reviewed the position, and announced that a telegram had been received from Canterbury stating that the association could not accept Wellington’s vVit. Letter follows. Tne letter stated rnat the Canterbury Association had carried the following resolution ~ regarding a match with. Wellington : “The Canterbury Association prefers that no match be played with Wellington this season for the following reasons: (1) That the Auckland Association has agreed to come south next season to bring the agreed scheme into operation in accordance with the arrangements carried out by the conference in July last; (2) that it was therefore essential that the Wellington team should come south and play Canterbury and Otago next season to bring the scheme into operation/' In thSir letter of November 20th to the Canterbury Association they pointed out that as Auckland had informed them they were not prepared to travel this season the Wellington Association proposed to play them on January Ist and the following days at Auckland for tho Plunket Shield. As matters stood they did not see how they could fulfil their engagement with . Canterbury this season at Christchurch. The Wellington Aseoelation suggested that the dates should be January 17th, 18th, and 20th. They did not ask for the usual New Tear’s dates, as they knew that Canterbury had already arranged to play the South Melbourne team at that time. He pointed out that Wellington had been left without a representative match this season, and in-spite of that Christchurch and Otago expected a visit this season without any promise of a match here. Ha suggested that Canterbury should be offered the Easter dates for a match at Christchurch. Mr Hood: The question is whether we can send a decent team or not. Mr Law wanted to know what was the decision of the committee at the previous meeting. The chairman pointed out that at the first meeting this matter was considered they offered Canterbury February 15th, 17th, and 18th, and suggested a return match in March, but this was not replied to until the Canterbury team returned from Auckland. Later Mr Wilson and himself were authorised to make arrangements, and had power to offer them a match without terms. This offer was not made. After further discussion it was decided to offer to play Canterbury for tho Plunket Shield at Easter.
