Mrs W. H. Barnicoat has returned from a visit to Wanganui. Miss Blake is the guest of Mrs Fell and Miss Richmond at Maheno Bay. Miss Joan Duff, of Hawke’s Bay, is a guest of Mrs Hadfield. Mrs Maltby has returned to town after a short holiday at the hay Mr and Mrs Mackay, who have been visiting Wellington from Australia, left for Rotorua yesterday. Mrs Logan (Dunedin) and Mr and Mrs W. Kerr Hislop (of Christchurch) are staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr and Mrs M. Myers, of Wellington terrace, returned from a short visit to Christchurch yesterday moning. Miss L. Richardson, of the Terraco, has returned from a holiday at Rotorua. Mr and Mrs Frank R. Johnstone are returning by the Maunganui to-day from a holiday visit to Australia. Mrs W. H. Coy, of Island Bay, and her two little daughters have gone for a holiday to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Alee Myers have return-
ed from Napier, and are staying with Mr and Mrs Judah Myers in Fitzherbert terrace. The Rev. and Mrs W. G. Maslin returned to Waipawa on Saturday, after spending a holiday in Wellington and Canterbury. Mrs Soott, of Pahiatua, who has been holiday-mjiklng at Taupo, is spending a few days in Wellington before returning home. Mr and Mrs Eveleigh, of New South Wales* who have been staying at the Grand Hotel, left on Monday for Nelson. Miss Jean S. Wilson leaves for Invercargill at the end of the month, where she has consented to act temporarily as general secretary to the Young Women’s Christian Association. Miss Kelsey, of Dunedin, who arrives on Saturday to attend the Free Kindergarten Conference next week, will bo the guest of Mrs A. L. Herdman, at Kelburne. Mrs and the Misses Fitzherbert leave by the Oorinthio for Monte Video, and Mr and Mrs Alex. Roberts, of Dunedin, go to London by the same steamer. Staying at the Empire Hotel are Mr and Mrs Lakeman (Auckland), Mr and Mrs Bullen (Kaikoura), Mr and Mrs Soott (Blenheim), Mr and Mrs Ashwell (Wanganui), and Mr and Mrs Clifford Thompson (Timaru). The engagement is announced of Miss Josephine Henrys, second daughter of Mr J. E. Henrys, of Wellington, to Mr G. H. Abel, youngest eon of Mr C. B. Abel, of the firm of Abel and Co., Ltd., Sydney.
Yesterday afternoon, at the Burlington Tea Rooms, a pleasant little function took place, when Mrs Young (ne© Miss Lambert) was entertained to tea by the teachers of the Mount Cook Girls’ School, of which she herself had been a teacher prior to her marriage last ufonth. During the afternoon the guest of honour was presented with a silver butter dish from her former colleagues. A conference of delegates from the Free Kindergarten Unions of Christchurch, Auckland, Dunedin, and Wellington will meet in Wellington next week to discuss the question of federating the various unions. The conference will be held at Mrs Grady’s, Wellington terrace, who has kindly placed a room at the disposal of the delegates. Mrs Gill and Miss M. E. Richmond will represent the Wellington Council. Mrs Couzens is now actingsecretary for the local Kindergarten Union in place of Mrs Cleghorn, who recently left for a trip to England.
