LORD LIVERPOOL CONSENTS TO APPOINTMENT. Special to the. '‘Times.’* CHRISTCHURCH, February 11. In reply to a letter sent to his Ex* eellency by Colonel Cossgrove, V.D., requesting him to accept the position of honorary president and Dominion Chief Scout in succession to Lord Islington, Mr Gavin M. Hamilton, his Excellency’s private secretary, ha,-- sent the following letter: “I- am directed by the Governor to thank you for your letter of the Ist ust., and to say that his Excellency ■nil be pleased to become honorary president and Dominion Chief-Scout of the boys’ scout movement, but his Excellency desires me to add. that, while he considers the movement a most useful one for boys under fourteen years of ige (as it takes the place of the junior ;adet scheme), he is most anxious that nothing should be done to interfere or dash-with the training, laid down for senior cadets under the Defence Act, i.e., for boys over fourteen years of age.” ■:
