AMATEUR ATHLETICS

MEETING OF THE WELLINGTON CENTRE. A meeting of the Wellington Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was' held last evening at the Y.M.C.A. buildings, Mr McVilly V'"- x•> the chair. There were present—Messrs Kxtto, Duncan, Cozens, Cook, Hardham, Tnrnor,*’Leelie, W. 11. Pollock, Dunn, Young, Thompson, and Scott (hon. secretary). ' Mr Leslie explained that ho had in no way infringed his amateur status by accompanying a tug-of-war team to Sydney. The Seatoun A.A. Club applied for .permission to hold au evening meeting on February 12th, and this was agreed to. An application was received from tha New Zealand Methodist Young Men’s Bible Class Union to hold » snorts meeting on Easter Saturday at Wanganui, and this was agryed to, subject to half the usual fee being paid. The Marten Junction A.C. wrote stating that the club had been formed, and applying for affiliation, also for a permit to hold a sports meeting on February 26th. As the Woodvillo A.C. was holding a: gathering on the same day. further information was requestedIt was decided to grant certificates to the following who had reached the standard at the Wellington provincial championships: L. McKay, polo vault, 10ft 6in: G. Harvey, polo vault, 10ft. A. T. Duncan, 100yds, 10 l-sseo; J. Wilton, 440yds, 51 l-ssec; D. Cashman, 3 miles walk, 22min 21 3-SsOC. It was decided that the proposed conference of delegates from the different centres ha abandoned. Consideration was then given to the New Zealand championship meeting, which is to take place on. the Basin Reserve on Saturday. Various details were arranged, and everything attended to which will tend to the comfort of visitors and athletes. The gathering should prove a gx-cat success.
