PTOMAINE POISONING
EANGIORA HOLIDAYMAKERS RECOVERING. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 10. Inquiries made to-day disclosed tho fact that tho majority of those who attended the picnic or Messrs Weeks, Limited, at Rangiora on Saturday and suffered from tho effects of ptomainepoisoning were well enough to resume work as usual this morning, though some were rather shaky after their unpleasant experience. A young lady who was left behind at Rangiora returned to town to-day, having recovered from the effects of the poisoning. In some- cases the effects did not make themselves manifest for some timo. One young lady, whilst being escorted on Saturday night to her home, a mile or so beyond Papanui, was taken suddenly 111, and her escort was under the necessity of ringing up for a taxicab to convey her home. One of the male employees only took ill to-day, and had to go to his home. It ia understood that inquiries will be made by tho Hospital Board’s health inspector into tho cause of tho poisoning. As far as can bo ascertained no blame is attachable to the caterer. Tho salad dressing was made on Saturday morning, and it is assumed that the poisoning was due to tho fact that the salad was put on to a tin plate, and that deleterious chemical action thereby was set up.
