At yesterday’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce a letter respecting quarantine regulations was received from the New York Chamber of Commerce. The subject had been considered by the New York Chamber consequent upon a communication being received from the Surgeon-General of the United States Public Health Service,' and a report .had been drawn up on it and adopted. -Ibis report was inclosed wltb the letter. Xn hit comfnunication to the New York chamber, the Surgeon-General stressed the necessity for co-operation between the mercantile interests and the quaran tine authorities of the different parts of the world for the purpose of facilitating the enforcement of quarantine regulations for the prevention of the spread of disease, particularly rodent plague. The New York chamber regarded the matter of such importance as to call for the co-operative action of the mercantile interests of the principal ports of the world. It was decided to reply to effect that tho New Zealand authorities had for some years observed stringent quarantine precautions.
