TRADE WITH HULL
SHIPPING COMPANIES TO BE APPROACHED. The question of a direct steamer service between New Zealand and tho port of Hull was mentioned at yester-> day’s meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. Mr A. B. Mabin (president) said that 'tho chamber could not do very much in the matter other than make a recommendation to the shipping companies to send out direct boats from Hull to the Dominion. At the present time the shipping companies wore tho “top dogs” and the shipping trade was booming to such an extent that they had little time to attend to anything unless there was a monetary return. It had been said that if a guarantee were given that sufficient cargo would bo shipped the companies would put boats into the service. It was decided to write to tho New Zealand Shipping Company, tho Shaw, Savill and .Albion Company, and the Tyser Company, stating that Mr Austin Wilson had addressed the chamber oh the . question of trade with Hull, and that the chamber approved of the idea of there being loadings from Hull at stated intervals.
