A REGRETTABLE INCIDENT JAPANESE OFFICERS AFFRONTED AT CIVIC RECEPTION. %r Tolwaph—Press Association— Copjrieh* MELBOURNE, February 8. A regrettable incident occurred at the Lord Mayor’s reception to the Japanese admiral and officers. While tho Japanese National Anthem was being played on the Town Hall organ, a chorus from the opera “Mikado,” which is most objectionable to the Japanese, slipped in accidentally in tho form of a march between two anthem movements. It was evident that the Admiral was displeased, and «,tho Lord Mayor is writing regretting the unintentional affront.
