The Hurunui moved out from the wharf at 5.15 p.m. on Saturday, but as she was two men short in the stokehold the vessel dropped anchor in tho stream. The chief engineer hunted around and managed to get the two necessary men to fill the, vacancies.. The vessel sailed for London at 9.25 o’clock on Saturday night. Bannatyno and Co, advise - that the Nikau, is to resume running from - Nelson to-day, and will leave Wellington tomorrow evening for Nelson and. Motueka as usual. The Westport Coal Company’s collier Canopus la to get away from Wellington at 3 p.m. to-day for Westport. Tho Eemuera is expected to get away from Wellington at 4 p.m. to-day for Lyttelton with remainder of cargo from London. ,The Ripple, due at Wellington this morning from Gisbome, is bringing wool from Akitio and Cape Tnrnagain. The Arapawa left New Plymouth on Saturday for Westport to load coal for Wanganui 1 Tho Union Company’s steamer Kauri, is on her ’ way from Port Chalmers to Newcastle to load for Auckland. Mr A. B, Sheath joined tho Arahura as assistant 1 purser on Saturday. Tho schooner Lily, which left Lyttelton on January 11th for Greymouth, is over a month out. She was sighted on last Thursday at 1 p.m. five miles north of Cape Farewell. There was then a fresh north-westerly, and the schooner was heading south. Hatrick and Co. advise that tho coastal steamer Tainui is duo at Wellington tomorrow from Waitara, and will sail on Wednesday on. the return trip. The Shaw, Savill and Albion liner, Corinthio is due back at Wellington next Friday from Lyttelton to complete Homeward loading. She will leave hero on the following Thursday for London. After a smart run of 5J days from Newcastle, tho Waitemato arrived in the stream at Lyttelton early on Friday morning. The Waitemata left Newcastle at 6 p.m. last Saturday week and had a fine weather passage across the Tasman Sea and along the coast. The big steamer received very prompt despatch at Newcastle. She was under the cranes for only 58 hours, and during that time she loaded 7496 tons of coal as cargo, and 550 tons of bunker coal. The Waitemata will sail from Lyttelton about Thursday next, ' for Timaru to complete discharging. Tho Anchor Company’s steamer Waimen is to lay up at Nelson this week for annual inspection and overhaul. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Kaikonra arrived at Lyttelton on Friday morning from Dunedin with 700 tons of London cargo to discharge. She will sail to-morrow for Bluff with remainder of cargo. Long distance wireless records are always of interest to shipping people. Recently the Federal Telegraph Company’s station at Arlington, Victoria, sent and received a message to and from Honolulu. a distance of nearly 5000 miles. Tho merit of this remarkable performance can bo gauged by mentioning that the distance between Wellington, and San" Francisco is 6030 miles. Subject to a satisfactory inspection of

Stcnbcck. The Sterling is a handy vessel of 97 gross tons, and was built at Williamstown (Australia) in 189 b. The Zealandia is to leave Sydney this afternoon for Vancouver, via ports, ohe is duo at Auckland on I-nday morning, and is to sail at 5 p.m. on the same day. The Zcalandia is due at Vancouver on March 4th. , . ... ~ Bannatyne and Co. advise that the Tysor liner Makarini is due at Wellington to-morrow week (the 18th instant) from Wanganui roadstead to coranfete Homeward loading. She will leave hero on the 20th instant. for London. On Thursday morning the Union Company’s Katoa arrived at Lyttelton from Bunbury. The vessel had an uneventtui voyage with the exception of meeting heavy galea whilst in the Australian Bight between January 26th and Januoiy 3lst. The Katoa brought 1,130,000tt of timber, tho whole of which will be discharged at Lyttelton, and she is expected to sail for Westport on February lath. TYRONE AT AUCKLAND. The Federal-Shiro steamer Tyrone (formerly Drayton Grange) arrived at Auckland on Friday from Liverpool, via ports, and berthed at the Queen street wharf, where she was garnted pratique by the port health officer, Iho iyrone left' Liverpool on December 14th, ana made calls at Las Palmas, Capetown and Hobart eu route.
