Y.M.C.A. OLD BOYS’ CLUB

The initial meeting of the new year was held on Thursday, the general secretary, Mr A. Varney, presiding. The meeting took the form of a general discussion on the coming winter’s work, and all were most enthusiastic about the prospects for a successful year’s .work. A sub-committee of Messrs E. Phillips. H. Lay, R. Goad, and the hon. secretary (Mr B. Mabin) was appointed to go into the question of leaders for the following clubs and committees to be formed almost immediately; Religious, educational, debating, Shakespeare, harriers, orchestra, rambling, indoor gamed, boxing, and Rugby football. Mr P. C. Atkinson, late chairman of the club, who is now stationed in Christchurch, has organised a similar group of enthusiastic young men in that city, where a successful initial concert was held last Wednesday, over 300 being present. A visit to Wellington from this club is to be paid at Easter. Tho first concert of the club will take place in May, and it is suggested that a bazaar will be held a few months later. Messrs T. Spurdle. and M. Hodge were appointed representatives on the third and fourth floors to link up all boarders between eighteen and twentyone years who make their home in the building. Early in the season the general secretary will commence a series of twelve talks on Tennyson’s “ Idylls of the King.” Next Thursday, Mr Jameson, M.A., national secretary, will speak. After the address the members will be entertained at a gramophone entertainment by one of the boarders. Everything points to tho most successful season in the history of the club. All young fellows between the ages of eighteen and twenty-one are invited to join.
