LAKE COLERIDGE
CONTRACT CANCELLED. The Minister of Public Works (Hon. W. Fraser) informed a “Times 5 ’ reporter last night that the Government had decided to cancel the contract for the tnnnel at the Lake Coleridge hydroelectrical works, which had been under review for some time past. The Public Works Department will carry on the work at the contractor’s expense. It is understood that this decision was due to the slowness at which the contract was proceeding, and the department was not satisfied with tha. progress of the work owing to an un-’ dertaking to furnish electric power to the municipality of Christchurch by a given date. The work will probably be accelerated by the officers of the Public Works Department.
