ALLEGED SLANDER
SEQUEL: A CLAIM FOR £IO,OOO. MELBOURNE, February 7. The Rev. James Ronald has issued a writ against Robert Harper, claiming £IO,OOO damages for fraudulently procuring a verdict in the action Ronald versus Harper, heard in May, 1909. The Rev. John Black Ronald, Presbyterian minister and ex-mem bor of Parliament, sued Mr Robert Harper, ALP., on elder • of the same church, claiming £3OOO damages for alleged slander ano libel. The special damages mentioned were £7OO as loss of stipend, fees and house rent for a year and nine months. The allegations were that defendant had accused plaintiff of telling indecent stories in Parliament House. The defence was a general denial of tho_ statements. and it was pleaded that if they were uttered and published it was on a privileged occasion, and that they were uttered bona fide and without malice. The jury found for defendant.
