HUTT RIVER BOARD

A meeting of the Hutt River Board was hehTTast evening, and was attended by Messrs H. Baldwin (chairman), TV. Rnight, M. TV. Welch, A. D. Kennedy, and J. Bowers. It was decided to discuss the question of aproaching the ratepayers in regard to the raising of a loan of £IOOO, by way of an advanced rate in the district affected, in committee. The suggestion made by Mr Welch was that meetings be held in the new river district and the financial position of the board explained and the ■ ratepayers' sanction obtained to raise a loan for river protective purposes; The Hayward Land Company wrote approving of the protective work already done, and suggesting that a channel be cut to divert the stream fro mthe .banks, the company paying the cost of the work provided it did not exceed £lo.—Hold over. • The overseer (Mr E. Fisher) reporteß that six chains of river bank, on the Hayward Company’s land has been completed at a cost of £34 9s. Ko. 5 groyne, on the western sile of the river, near Silverstream railwav bridge, is completed at a cost of £53 8s lid. The reinstating of an old groyneat Haywards is in progress.
