ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
LABOURER CUTS HIS THROAT. A gruesome discovery was made in a private boardinghouse on Wol--lin "ton terrace _ early last evening, and tho circumstances point to” an attempted suicide on the part of a man named John Buchanan, who now lies at the hospital m a serious condition. Short y after 5 p.m. yesterday asked the proprietress of tho house —No. 27- Wellington Terraco —to bring bim a towei unstairs to tho bedroom. oho oomnliod with tho request, and from the inside of tho bathroom Buchanan called out to her to leave tho towel on the Knob of the door. Seme time hi ter. rßudhanan was found in tho bathroom. and according to tho constables report, he was wearing only his trousers and shirt. His throat had been doenly cut with a razor (tho property of Albert Bradbury), and he had lost a considerable quantity of blood. The man was in a very serious condition. Dr. Henry was summoned, and after attending to his wound, ordered the man’s removal to the hospitalDuring tho last three or four months Buchanan Had been employed as a casual labourer in the Union Steamship Company’s repairing yards. It is stated that during tho last week or two ho had been strange in his manner and behaviour. The hospital authorities reported last night that though tho wound was serious, and tho man had suffered a largo effusion of blood, there was a reasonable chance of his recovery, unless, of course, tho shock had been too great for him. Tho wound was ‘stitched soon after his arrival.
