AFFILIATED LABOUR
MEMBERSHIP OF UNIONS INCREASING. Special to the “ Times.” CHRISTCHURCH, February 5. The secretary of the Canterbury Trades and Labour Council informed a : reporter that as the outcome of the conference the unions which severed their connection with the council were anxious to become again affiliated with it. Apparently they recognised that it did not matter what organisation they belonged to, as long as all the unions belonged to it. The conference had had the effect on the individual, as shown by the fact that the membership of the different unions was increasing. The position taken up by the individual ■was that ho did not see the sense of supporting one labour organisation, that was fighting against another la(hour organisation, but as soon as it was shown that labour was united these waverers saw the value of becoming members of the union in their trade.
