INJURED BY MOTOR CARS
SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGES AWARDED BY COURT. Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 4. The hearing of evidence in the action in which tho father of Phillip Roland Hartnell (an infant) claimed from Oswald James Melvern tno sum of £l6 19s special damages and £IOOO general damages for injuries received by the lad through being struck by a motor car owned by tho defendant was concluded at tho Supreme Court to-day before Judge Cooper and a jury. After retirement the jury brought in a verdict for £3OO general damages and special damages claimed.
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL. CLAIM. OAMABU, February 4. A case was tried in the Supreme Court to-day in which tho father of a boy named Farquhar sued a voung man named Whitten, or, in tho alternative. Ids father, for the .sum ot £5Ol as damages in connection with a motor car accident by which tho boy Farquhar was alleged to have been injured. The question was whether tho car was nn its right side of the road, and whether it was being driven at a reasonable rate of speed. The case lasted, all day and into the evening. Tho jury gave a verdict for £25 against both defendants, and tho judge intimated that ho would have to decide whether the caso was one that should have been brought, .before tho Supreme Court, as .the scale of costs would depend on this.
