NEW PLYMOUTH LETTER

February 2. Miss Bedford left last night for a holiday visit to Auckland and Botorua. Miss Olive Alackay has returned from a long visit to her aunt in Otago. Miss Grant returned on Thursday from Auckland. , , Mrs W. H. Skinner returned to Blenheim on Friday last. Miss Dorothy Nolan (Auckland) is ths guest of Mrs Matthews (Fitzroy). Miss Bead and Miss Testar have gone to spend a week at the Mountain iiostelry. Mrs W. J. Shaw (Auckland), who hao been the guest of Mrs Stanley Shaw, left for Wellington yesterday. The Misses Casey (Auckland), who have been spending a few days in New Flymouth, returned home by Thursday’s boat. Mrs Charles and Mrs Fred Fairbrother are visiting their father, Mr G. Cliff. Mrs and Miss Glasgow and Mrs Claude Weston are spending a week at the Mountain Hostelry. Dr and Mrs Bertram (Botorua), who have been staying for some time with Archdeacon and Mrs Evans, returned to Auckland en route for Botorua hy last night’s boat. Miss Flossie Evans accompanying them for a visit. Mrs Newton King leaves for Wellington to-morrow to meet her daughter, Mrs Sidney Allen (Dunedin), who is coming to New Plymouth for a visit with her two email children. Mr and Mrs Wylie returned from a visit to AVellington on Thursday last. Mrs Halso has gone to Auckland for a visit to her daughter, Mrs D. Long. Mrs Colvile gave a pleasant party on Monday evening last at the vicarage in honour of Miss D. Nolan (Auckland). Among these present were Misses Colvile, Matthews, Nolan, Blundell. Boy, Bewley, Bedford. Glasgow, Eenaud and .Webster, and Messrs Benaud, Bewley, Armstrong, Millar, Arden, Deighton and Matthews. A garden party was held on Thursday afternoon in Mr Percy-SmitVs pretty grounds in aid of the Victoria College tor Maori girls (Auckland). Afternoon tea was served under the trees, and was in great demand, as the day was beautifully fine. Among those present were:— Mrs Evans, gray costume, black and white hat; Mrs Colvile, white linen coat and skirt, black hat with long white plume; Miss Percy-Smith. silver gray silk, black hat with black and white filumes; Airs Home, mauve Paisley musin finished with black silk fringe, violet toque; Miss Wade, cream costume, black plumed hat; Mrs Leatham, gray coat and skirt, black hat with blue lancer

plumes; Mrs Prichard (Dannevirke). white embroidered muslin, ecru hat wreathed with small red and pink roses; Miss Leatham, gray crepe, piped with white, gray and white hat; Mrs Devenish, black silk, black and pink bonnet; Mra W. H, Skinner (Blenheim), navy costume. black and white plumed hat; Mrs Harry Fookes, black and white spotted muslin, black hat; Mrs Murray, blue spotted foulard, black hat with plumes; Miss Blundell, white embroidered muslin, black hat with blue roses; Miss Matthews, black and whit© voile, black hat with tangerine roses; Miss B. Matthews, white muslin, white hat with crimson roses; Miss D. Nolan (Auckland), white embroidered muslin, white hat with plumes; Mrs Walker, black taffetas, black plumed hat; Mrs Hoy, gray coat and skirt, black plumed hat with pink roses; Mrs Bertram (Rotorua), cream cloth costume, saxe blue hat; Miss Evans, whit© insertioned muslin, whit© hat; Miss F. Shaw (Auckland), gray Sicilian coat and skirt, black plumed hat; Mies Aider, gray coat and skirt, black hat with white plumes. TEe bridge club met on Friday evening at Mrs Jack Wilson's, Miss K. Hamerton winning the prize. Juvenile parties have been given lately by Mrs E. Griffiths, Mrs Sladden, Mrs E. Gilmour, and Mrs W. Bayly, the small folk thoroughly enjoying themselves.
