EASTER CARNIVAL
SCHOOL CHILDREN’S DISPLAY. BOXING TOURNAMENT IN THE TOWN HALL. Arrangements are proceeding satisfactorily for tho Easter Carnival, A meeting of the school children’s display subcommittee was hold in tho Mayor’s room yesterday afternoon, tho largo attendance including headmasters and lady teachers of the city and suburban schools. Mr H. Amos was appointed chairman and Miss Young secretary of the subcommittee. After some discussion as to the displays to be given by tbe children, it was decided to adjourn until 4.30 p.m: nest Friday. In tbe meantime, Mr W. T. Grundy will convene a meeting of headmasters to ascertain the number of children likely to take part and discuss the probable nature of the displays. A. report will be presented to the subcommittee on Friday. . A deputation from tho sports subcommittee waited on tho Wellington Boxing Association yesterday and asked the association to assist the carnival by organising a boxing tournament to be held on a convenient night within a day or two of Easter. It was stated that the finance committee ot the City Council had promised to give the use of the Town Hall for tho tournament free of charge. The Boxing Association agreed to the proposal undertaking to prepare an attractive programme. It will include contests for novices, university students, and amateurs generally, a'so a match between Heggarty and Porter. It- is expected that the tour laneut will yield a considerable sum of m im-y.
