CRIMINAL TRIALS

Press Association. TIMARU, February 4. At the Supreme Court to-day the criminal list comprised only three cases against four men. H. Porter, a previous offender, got six months for leading a drunken man to a quiet place, assaulting and robbing him; T. Higgins and J. Russell, found guilty of robbing an old age pensioner in his house of £7 10s in cash and some goods, got twelve months each ; the parties in thia case were all "drinking beer together, and the old man became very drunk. In a charge of criminal assault on a boy the jury failed to agree, and a retrial was ordered for to-morrow, the judge intimating that he would arrange for the accused to be represented by counsel.
