TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 4. ; (Before Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M.) Henry James Wren was sentenced to a week’s imprisonment for stealing a vest valued at os 6d, the property of Alexander Dimdore. For using obscene language William Butcher was fined £3, in default fourteen days. William Bashford was remanded to appear at the Waipawa Court to-mor-row on a charge of stealing a bridle, of the value of 10s, belonging to David Munn. It is alleged that the offence took place on September Ist, 1910. Patrick Coleman, who absented himself from the Turakina at Lyttelton recently was ordered to pay costs 7s, and to be returned to the vessel. civhTmatters. (Before Dr. A. McArthur, S.M.) EXCAVATION WORK. Burridgo and Ford, contractors, of Wellington, sued H. Ranson, builder, of Wellington, for £lll, alleged to be due by Hanson in respect of certain excavation work done by tho claimants, as subcontractors, in connection with additions to Staples Brewery. At tho same time three other actions wore hoard, in which John McAteer, carrier (Mr E. J. Fitzgibbon), F. Diamond, carter (Mr F. P. Kelly), and James William Digging, carrier (Air H. E. Anderson), sued Burridge and Ford for work done, also Ranson, as contractor, under tho Wages Protection and Contractors’ Lien Act, 1908. Air T. Young appeared for Ranson. Burridge and Ford were represented by Mr C. W. Tringham. After lengthy evidence was taken, his Worship reserved judgment until February 11th. ALLEGED PROFESSIONAL SERVICES. Burrell Brothers, farmers, of Cheltenham, were proceeded against by Frederick George Bolton, solicitor. Wellington, on a claim for £3 10s for professional services alleged to have been rendered. Air O. Beere appeared for the plaintiff, and Air 31. H. Oram for the defendant. Decision was reserved. UNDEFENDED CASES. A claim for £3B 4s Id, balance of an account for groceries, was made by Thomas Easton, storekeeper, Kilbxrnie, against Jessie McLeod, widow,, Kilbimio. . , , „ , Plaintiff was represented by Mr A. H. Hindmarsh, Mr D. M. Findlay appearing for the defendant. Defendant disputed liability on tho ground that the debt was contracted by her late husband. His Worship non suited the plaintiff, but allowed no costs. He said that defendant was morally liable, but not legally so, as she was not a party t <y any contract.
