MASTERTON A. & P. ASSOCIATION
At the meeting of the general committee of the Mastcrton A. and P. Association on Saturday afternoon air D. McGregor, junior, moved that no liquor be provided for the use of stewards and judges at the Solway show tins year. Mr McGregor stated that a good deal oi dissatisfaction had been caused at past shows in connection with the manner in which liquor had been dispensed. Mr J. Strang did not consider that the association was justified in having liquor on the ground in a no-license district. Other members expressed the opinion that it would be a mistake not to provide refreshments for the judges. Mr McGregor’s motion was lost on the voices, and it was decided, on the motion of Mr W. J. Welch, that the refreshment room be transferred to a site to be arranged by Messrs G. G. Summerell and It. Gray. It was also decided that the privilege of introducing guests be restricted to marshal stewards and committeemen. Mr D. McGregor, junior, reported to the meeting that the president and ho had interviewed the Railway Department in regard to the running of trains at show time. The officials had admitted that they were ashamed of last year’s arrangements, and had promised that there would be a considerable improvement this year. For the benefit of Wellington passengers a carriage would be attached to a late train for Wellington, while special arrangements would bo made for visitors from the Bush districts. The committee decided that the railway time-table be given the fullest publicity throughout the Forty Mile Bush.
